There is so much to see and do in Tokyo, making it is nearly impossible to do everything on your list. Just walking down the street, you will find something new around every corner. To help you narrow it down, here are five see sites in Tokyo to add to your itinerary.
An observation deck – There are a lot of observation decks throughout Tokyo: Mori Tower, the Tokyo Metropolitan building, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, to name just a few. Pick one and get to the top to see how large the city is, you can’t go wrong with any of them. It really gives you a perspective to see just how big Tokyo is from atop one of these observation decks.
Sensoji Temple – Sensoji is one of the most beautiful temple complexes in Japan and in all of Tokyo itself. The temple itself is gorgeous, the grounds are amazing, and if you are looking for food or a place to shop for souvenirs, the streets all around the area are a must see when you explore. A note though, get there early in the morning because this place can get really packed, really quick.
Meiji Shrine – Meiji Shrine is a beautiful shrine complex, but the surrounding grounds are what should draw you there. The man-made forest that hides the shrine is gorgeous. It is a nice break after nothing but the concrete streets of the city to see some green and hear nature instead of the hustle and bustle of the city. The grounds are also large enough you will be able to explore and not be bottled up like a subway at closing time.
Shinjuku and Shibuya – If you are looking for the neon lights, big crowds (if and when that is safe once again), and just the night life of Tokyo, Shinjuku and Shibuya are a must see. Memory Lane? The Robot Restaurant? Endless izakayas? You will find all of these and more in both Shinjuku and Shibuya areas. These spots are just full of life and a must see, just make sure to bring your wallet, an empty stomach, and your camera.
Just explore – It is pretty easy to book up your schedule with a list of things to do and see while visiting in Tokyo. I get it, there is so much to see that tourists often have to make tough decisions, but if you want to really have some fun, just leave your hotel, and just start walking. You will find all sorts of restaurants, stores, and other randomness of Tokyo, just leading to even more fun as you explore this city. You never know what you may find walking the streets of Tokyo.
