Trying new foods is always a little scary when you aren’t sure what you are eating exactly. This is the case with Japanese foods, but I must insist, expand your horizons and don’t be afraid to try new foods that you may think are strange.
My taste in food is pretty basic and every American. I mean, give me some chicken fingers and French fries and I’m super happy. However, when you are in Japan (or any other country), you need to branch out, explore, and try some foods you thought you would never see or even attempt to eat before. Even though there are plenty of McDonald’s, Starbucks and other chain restaurants in Japan, don’t go to them!
In 2017, I tried chicken gizzards, something I never thought I would ever eat and other random foods that were not quite clear to me what they were. In 2019, it was takoyaki, tsukune, and even fried tofu. I was able to get out of my comfort zone and try some foods I had never thought about and I am glad I did. Being uncomfortable is a good thing when you are exploring the world.
So when you are able to return to travel or even trying out that new restaurant down the street, never be afraid of trying something new. You never know what you may discover.
