5 Greats Things About Kyoto

Kyoto is an incredible city that is full of tradition and history. From the temples to the narrow back streets that lead to incredible discoveries, there are so many amazing things to do and see in the city. Here are five things that make Kyoto so amazing.

History – Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, is full of history everywhere you go. If you are looking for a shrine, temple or another historical place, Kyoto is the place to go to. I am a history major and I couldn’t get enough of how rich the history is and how many ancient sites still remain. Every place you go to has a story behind it so get out and explore this incredible city.

Still modern – Kyoto is known for its ancient buildings and history but it is also still modern enough for those who want that part of Japan (and are missing Tokyo and the other large cities). Explore around the Kyoto Station and you will find a lot of modern buildings, restaurants, and other sites that are fun to explore. Kyoto is one of the most incredible cities because of its mixture of both old and new.

Filming dream – If you have a camera or just want to see some of the most picturistic places in all of Japan, Kyoto is the place to go. From Fushimi Inari to Gion to the surrounding countryside, there is so much to see and photograph/film. So if you are heading to Kyoto, make sure your memory is clear and your battery is charged up because you do not want to miss anything while exploring this city.

Incredible restaurants – Like Tokyo, there are so many little restaurants throughout the city along with incredible food vendors along the streets that lead to the shrines. No matter what you are after, especially if you are after fresh vegetables (not always easy to find in Tokyo), Kyoto is full of these types of foods and restaurants. Make sure to explore with a full wallet and an empty stomach throughout this city.

Stunning countryside – If you are looking to find nature and escape the city view, Kyoto is surrounded by green hills and mountains that are ideal to explore. So if you want to explore the famous bamboo garden or even the monkey park, these areas are just a short train ride and a hike away. In just an hour, you will feel as if you are a thousand miles away from any city.
